ELKHART, Ind. — Elkhart police officers who patrol the city and others who have the most contact with the public now have body cameras.
Sgt. Chris Snyder tells The Elkhart Truth (http://bit.ly/2cmZqGR) officers have been gradually assigned body cameras over the last six months. As technical issues have been resolved, more have received them.
Elkhart City Councilman Brent Curry says he believes the cameras will protect the innocent.
Discussion in Elkhart about purchasing the devices began early last year while many communities across the country debated the value of body cameras, partly in response to the 2014 shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, by a police officer.
