VINELAND, N.J. — Authorities say a police officer was stabbed in the face and head during a struggle with a New Jersey man.

Police say two officers and state Human Services workers were checking on the well-being of a resident at a Vineland home Wednesday afternoon when a physical altercation broke out.

Authorities say 26-year-old Johnny Flores stabbed one of the officers in the head and face with a knife.

Flores and the officers were hospitalized. Authorities say the officer with the stab wounds is in stable condition. The other officer has been released from the hospital.

Flores faces charges including attempted murder and aggravated assault on a police officer. He remains jailed on $500,000 bail.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer.
