CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Derrick Craine ran for a career best 222 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns and Chattanooga rolled over Samford 41-21 on Saturday.

Alejandro Bennifield added 236 yards and two touchdowns throwing and 45 more yards with a score on the ground for the Mocs (4-0, 2-0 Southern Conference), who are 4-0 to open a season for the first time since 1979.

The Mocs struck first late in the first quarter on a 70-yard pass from Bennifield to Richard Bagley which spurred them to a 21-7 lead at the break.

Samford (2-1, 0-1) managed to cut its deficit to 13 (34-21) with 6:53 to play after a 35-yard TD pass from Devlin Hodges to Kelvin McKnight but Craine’s second score minutes later put it away.

Hodges threw for 314 yards and McKnight added 143 yards receiving.
