Table tennis fall league kicks off this week

The Columbus Area Table Tennis Association 2016 Fall League will begin Wednesday and continue from 7 to 10 p.m. for eight Wednesdays through Nov. 16 at Donner Center.

The league will feature six weeks of open exhibition play, culminating in a double-elimination singles tournament the final two weeks. There also will be a doubles tournament Oct. 12.

Players of all skill levels are welcome. Fees are $40 for the entire league, $20 for ages 18 and younger, $8 for an individual session or $10 for singles tournament sessions.

Seymour offering coed, women’s volleyball

The Seymour Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its Summer Coed and Women’s Volleyball Leagues until Saturday.

Coed League games will be played Sunday evenings at the Seymour Boys and Girls Club, and Women’s League games will be Wednesday evenings at Seymour Middle School. Cost is a $95 team sponsor fee, plus six $13 player fees.

Academy sponsoring new basketball league

The Columbus Club Elite Basketball Academy is sponsoring a new basketball league for boys in Grades 3 through 8.

The league will begin Oct. 22 and run for eight Saturdays at Columbus East High School. Grades 3 and 4 will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Grades 5 and 6 will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Grades 7 and 8 will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

The league will involve working on fundamentals, practicing drills and playing games. Cost is $50 by Oct. 15 or $60 after Oct. 15, with a $5 discount for additional siblings in a family, and includes a reversible jersey and a basketball.

Registration can be done from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the East athletics office. Registration forms also are available at columbusclubelite.org.

Columbus Youth Wrestling League to kick off soon

The Columbus Youth Wrestling League will debut in mid-October and run through mid-December for kindergartners through sixth-graders.

The goal of the CYWL is to introduce the sport of wrestling to young athletes and parents in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Wrestlers will practice as one team, but participants will be divided into smaller teams with a mix of experienced and new wrestlers for competitions.

The first practice will be from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. Oct. 17, and additional practices will be Oct. 19 and 24; Nov. 7, 14 and 28 and Dec. 5 and 7. Competitions will be Oct. 28; Nov. 3, 10 and 17 and Dec. 1 at Taylorsville Elementary, and a final competition will be Dec. 10 at Columbus North High School. Cost is $40.

East coaches to host basketball camp at FFY

The Good & Humes basketball camp, hosted by former Columbus East girls basketball coach Mel Good and current East assistant Willie Humes will be the week of Fall Break.

The camp is for ages 5 through 8. Cost is $60. To sign up, contact FFY at 812-348-4555.

Columbus Revolution conducting tryouts

The Columbus Revolution will conduct basketball tryouts Saturday at Columbus North High School. Tryouts are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for second- and third-graders and from 3 to 4:30 p.m. for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders.

Tryouts for seventh- and eighth-graders will take place after their middle-school season has ended.
