Marathon volunteer: Debbie Barrett

Columbus resident Debbie Barrett was among about 1,000 volunteers Saturday during the annual Mill Race Marathon.

Again.

This year, her third, Barrett was assigned to assist runners by removing timing tags from their shoes after they crossed the finish line.

“I’m a Realtor, so I work with people all the time and this is just an enjoyable event,” said Barrett, who is employed by Century 21 Breeden Realtors, Columbus.

“It’s very energetic, very rewarding, very fun and everybody that’s here is enjoying themselves,” she said. “There’s a lot of energy going on out here.”

That creates an enjoyable atmosphere for her and plenty of others.

“I just enjoy volunteering and doing work with people,” she said.
