First presidential debate tonight

The first of three presidential debates is at 9 p.m. today at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York.

Participants: Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. Libertarian and Green Party candidates failed to qualify for the debates based on the most recent major polling.

Moderator: Lester Holt of NBC News.

Time: 9 to 10:30 p.m.

Viewing: Major networks and leading cable news sites will broadcast it live, and some of them will stream the debate live on their websites.

What’s next:

— The second debate is scheduled for 9 p.m. Oct. 9 with Martha Raddatz of ABC News and Anderson Cooper of CNN as co-anchors.

— The third and final debate is at 9 p.m. Oct. 19 with Chris Wallace of Fox News as moderator.
