Doris M. Taylor, 83, of Westport, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Keepsake Village in Columbus. She was born February 27, 1933, in Decatur County, the daughter of John E. and Marie E. (Mires) Stuart.

Doris lived in Bartholomew County from 1958 until 1965. She moved back to Decatur County in 1965 and into Westport in 1985. She had worked for Dr. Day DDS, Sandcrest Apothecary and Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant.

Doris was a 20-year member of the Westport Wesleyan Church where she had served as treasurer for 13 years, vice chair for 13 years and board member for 13 years, and was a former 20-year member of Flintwood Wesleyan Church in Columbus where she had served on the board and was a choir member. She also had attended Hope First Wesleyan Church. She loved being a wife, mother and grandma and enjoyed gardening, quilting, being a homemaker and playing golf and softball.

Doris traveled in every state and had wintered in Florida since 1980.

She married John R. Taylor August 19, 1950, in Rodney. He preceded her in death on December 18, 2015.

She is survived by her daughter, Darla Mae (Rev. Barry) Goodman of Hope; sons, Rick D. (Melissa) Taylor of Denver, North Carolina, and Randy D. (Janet) Taylor of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina; a brother, Paul (Ardena) Stuart of Westport; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Richard Lee Taylor, and a brother, the Rev. Robert D. Stuart.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Barry Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Aerie Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Gideon Memorial Bible Program, Southern Care Hospice of Bloomington or Hope First Wesleyan Church.
