Residents who took a 13-gallon or larger bag of aluminum beverage cans to Bartholomew County Recycling Center got a coupon for a free ice cream cone at the downtown Dairy Queen, part of the Cans for Cash City Recycling Challenge sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Mayors.

1991

Former Bartholomew County Sheriff Rick Hill sued the city of Columbus, Mayor Robert N. Stewart and Police Chief Jerry Coons to regain the patrolman’s job he held before he was elected sheriff in 1987.

1966

Bartholomew Consolidated School Board unanimously approved the use of Memorial Gymnasium for an appearance in late October of former Vice President Richard M. Nixon, stipulating that the local Democrat Party would be given equal time use of the facility if it desired during the election year.
