Poster contest highlights importance of smoke alarms

The Columbus Fire Department is seeking young artists to create a fire prevention poster to coincide with this year’s Fire Prevention Week, which is Oct. 9 to 15.

“Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years” is the theme of this year’s week.

Posters should be constructed on an 8.5- by 11-inch paper and highlight the theme. Pen, pencil, colored pencil, crayon or paint may be used to create the poster. Children should include their name, age and telephone number on the back of the entry.

Posters may be dropped off through Oct. 4 at the Columbus Fire Department administrative offices, 1101 Jackson St., during regular business hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The winning poster will be announced Oct. 5.

The winner will receive four tickets to Holiday World and Spashin’ Safari courtesy of White River Broadcasting Co.
