FLINT, Mich. — Flint’s mayor says an ongoing dispute about trash pickup in Flint is hurting the city.
The Flint Journal reports (http://bit.ly/2d995mL ) Mayor Karen Weaver told participants at a town hall meeting Tuesday night that “we need to be working together instead of fighting each other.”
The dispute involving Weaver and city council led to two companies trying to handle some of the same routes this week. On Monday, city council members postponed three resolutions from Weaver’s office to send her a message.
Weaver’s office earlier this year recommended that the city replace trash hauler Republic Services with Rizzo Environmental Services. City council voted to keep Republic.
Garbage collection was suspended for one day in August amid the dispute, which comes as Flint works to recover from its crisis with lead-tainted water.
