Robert (Bob) William Cheap, 78, of West Grandview Drive, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016, at his home after a lengthy illness due to interstitial lung disease.

Bob was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Charleston, West Virginia. He was the son of William and Frances Comstock Cheap. He spent his youth in Ashland, Kentucky. Bob graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He married Suzanne Woolery in 1956. Bob and Suzanne raised five children together in Lexington, Kentucky, and Columbus, Indiana.

They later divorced.

Bob retired after a 39 year career with Cummins, Inc., having served in a number of roles in management, including Defense Marketing, product planning and program management, often within Cummins’ engineering organizations.

Bob married Patricia Reck in 1986. They enjoyed 30 years of well-loved family events, the Indianapolis Symphony and travel together. Bob had a strong technical expertise and special fondness for all things computer-related. A new iPhone became his most recent pleasure.

Bob is survived by his wife, Patricia Reck; daughters, Suzanne L. Smith and Kathryn (Mark) Jones; sons, Daniel Cheap and Robert (Nena) Cheap Jr., as well as, step-son, John (Kimberley) Stewart. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and son, James Cheap.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. There will be a family gathering of remembrance at a later date.
