More than 400 students piled onto Smith Elementary School’s new track for a ceremony dedicating the project, which took five years and $12,000 to complete.


The year’s harvest of soybeans and corn was way ahead of the year before but less than it should be because of the summer’s dry and hot conditions.


Conservation worker Woodrow Fleming and vocational agriculture teacher Wayne Coy, both of Columbus, received the Rural Service Award given each year by Columbus Chamber of Commerce.
