Local drivers shiners at Brownstown

Last weekend, Brownstown Speedway hosted two days of racing.

On Sept. 23, the track hosted the “Bowman 50” for the Indiana Late Model Series. Jason Jameson of Lawrenceburg was the winner of the event, which paid $2,000 to win. He was followed to the finish line by Marty O’Neal of Spencer, Justin Shaw of Whiteland, Austin Burns of Morgantown and Steve Barnett of Franklin.

Tim Rivers of Salem returned to Victory Lane at Brownstown by winning the Pure Stock feature race. Kyle Albertson of Scottsburg finished a close second to Rivers in the 20-lap event. Dalton Fleenor of Little York was third, with Michael Cranmer of Jeffersonville and Quintin Strope of Commiskey completing the top five.

John Mayer Jr. of Edinburgh went to Brownstown’s Victory Lane again by winning the Hornet feature race. Blake Gibson of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, was second, with Hunter Perry of Columbus finishing third. Donnie Modesty of Seymour was fourth, with Zach Burton of Edinburgh completing the top five.

On Sept. 25, Scott Bloomquist of Mooresburg, Tennessee, claimed his sixth career Jackson 100 victory by winning the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event, which paid $20,000 to win. Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tennessee, finished second, followed by Darrell Lanigan of Union, Kentucky, in third. Rounding out the top five were Tim McCreadie of Watertown, New York, and Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa.

Devin Gilpin of Columbus won the Modified feature race at Brownstown. Matt Boknecht of Seymour placed second, with Derek Groomer of Bloomington taking third. Victor Lee of Danville, Kentucky, crossed the line in fourth, just ahead of Jeremy Owens of North Vernon.

Tim Eddelman of Taylorsville picked up another Super Stock win this year by edging out Mike Fields of Scottsburg and Randy Petro of Columbus for the win. Jeremy Helton of Paris Crossing and Jamey Wilson of Seymour trailed the top three to the finish line.

Racing will continue at Brownstown Speedway tonight with the Battle of the Bluegrass Late Models paying $3,000 to win. Also racing will be the Indiana Pro Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks and Hornets. For more info, visit brownstownspeedway.com.

Eldora hosts 4-crown nationals

Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, hosted the 35th Annual 4-Crown Nationals on Sept. 24 with USAC’s 3 divisions of racing on hand to do battle.

Justin Grant took the win in the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature event. Chris Windom finished in second, with points leader Brady Bacon taking third. Dave Darland and Tyler Courtney rounded out the top five.

Rico Abreu, driving the Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports entry, won the USAC National Midget feature race. Tanner Thorson was the runner-up, followed by Brady Bacon. The rest of the top five were Chad Boat and Holly Shelton.

Chris Windom not only was victorious in the USAC Silver Crown feature, he also clinched the points title in the division with his win. Justin Grant finished second to Windom, with Tyler Courtney placing third. Brady Bacon was fourth, and Kody Swanson took fifth.

Paragon closes out season

Paragon Speedway closed out its 2016 racing season on Sept. 25 with the Annual Mike Johnson Memorial Race. The race in honor of the former track promoter and driver who hailed from Martinsville saw Ethan Barrow  come home with the win in the Sprint Car feature over Jake Scott, Tyler Hewitt, Josh Cunningham and Andrew Prather.

In the Super Stock division, Chris Hillman scored yet another feature win. Winston Howe finished in second followed by Steve Hollars, Mike Ham and Rob Paris.

Mark Smith won the Bomber feature at Paragon. Matthew Cooley finished second, and Jacob Ham was third. Kelly West Jr. and William Summers completed the top five drivers.

Mike Swango Jr. took the top honors in the Pure Stock class. Aaron

Acres was second, with Frank Horvath, Matthew Cooley and Ethan Litton completing the top five.

A.J. Hobbs won the Hornet division feature. Reece Novak, Mark Gott, Felisha Lucas of Edinburgh and Owen Cosman completed the top five finishers.

Greensburg hosts racers

The Decatur County Fairgrounds in Greensburg hosted two days of racing last weekend. On Sept. 24, Nick Speidel was the winner of the UMRA King of the TQ’s feature race. He was followed to the finish line by Robbie Roland, Rick Robinson of Columbus, Ron Combs and Jason Goff.

On Sunday night, Matthew Hedrick was the winner of the UMRA main event. He was trailed to the finish line by Jason Goff, Jason Setser of Columbus and Johnny Goff.

UMRA has one race left in the season, and that will take place next weekend at Brownstown Speedway. Jason Setser and Jason Goff are tied for the points lead heading into the season finale.

In Hornet racing action, at Greensburg Gage Clark won the Saturday Night program, with Kenny Higbie finishing second. Austin Perry of Columbus was third. On Sunday night, it was Jerry Gibson III the winner, followed by Dalton Roark, Andrew Roark, Kenny Higbie and Austin Perry.

Twin Cities hosts season finale tonight

Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon will wrap up its racing season tonight. On the race program will be Crate Late Models, Modifieds, Mini-Sprints, Super Stocks and Hornets. For more info, visit twincitiesracewaypark.net.

Lawrenceburg finale tonight
