PHOENIX — A 6-year-old boy is dead after being thrown from the open bed of a pickup in a car crash in Phoenix.

Police identified the boy killed Sunday as Tyrik (tye-REEK) Jenkins and say he was among three children thrown from the truck bed by the impact.

Two other children and three other people in the pickup were injured, but expected to survive.

Police say the driver of the other vehicle was 19-year-old German Godinez-Godinez.

They say the Guatemala native was arrested on suspicion of one count of manslaughter and five counts of endangerment after he showed signs of impairment and allegedly made admissions about using cocaine and alcohol.

Godinez-Godinez remains jailed in lieu of $250,000 bond. He didn’t have a lawyer or an interpreter at this initial court appearance Monday.
