PONTOTOC, Miss. — A 7-year-old Pontotoc girl was died after getting hit by an SUV moments after she got off a school bus.

Sheriff Leo Mask tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (http://bit.ly/2duQKRw) the North Pontotoc Elementary student had just gotten off the school bus at on Old Highway 9 North Tuesday afternoon. Mask says the driver of an SUV approached the bus from the rear, swerved to the right past the school bus and struck the child in her own driveway.

Pontotoc County Coroner Kim Bedford said the child was transported to the North Mississippi Medical Center where she died from her injuries. The name of the child has not been released.

Mask said more information would be released Wednesday, including possible criminal charges against the driver.
