SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. — Authorities have captured a man wanted in the shooting of Dux, a K-9 that chased him the night before in Virginia.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that 34-year-old Joseph Conway was taken into custody in Richmond Monday night. The sheriff’s statement says Conway was a passenger in a vehicle whose driver was taken into custody Sunday night, and tried to flee the scene.

Officials say Conway fired at deputies and struck Dux as he ran away. Deputies fired back, then took the dog to a veterinary hospital in serious condition. Officials obtained warrants charging Conway with attempted capital murder of law enforcement and a weapons offense.
