FRESNO, Calif. — Officials say a high school student in Central California has been diagnosed with an infectious disease that affects the lungs and spreads through the air.

The Fresno County Department of Public Health said Friday that the student has been diagnosed with an active case of tuberculosis. The student attends Bullard High School in Fresno.

Officials say that people who came into close contact with the student may have been exposed to the disease.

County health officials say they’re working with the Fresno Unified School District to identify others on campus who need to be tested.

Officials say the student at is being treated and monitored.
