Help others with Cheer Fund event

Kids and accompanying adults have the opportunity to visit the kidscommons children’s museum on their fall break and help less fortunate individuals at the same time.

Thursday will be Firemen’s Cheer Fund Day at kidscommons, 309 Washington St.

Groups of up to four people will receive half off of the regular admission price for every new toy they bring in between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

That means each person will be admitted for $3.50, rather than the normal price of $7 for individuals 18 months and older.

In addition, local firefighters will greet families from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the Cheer Fund website states.

Information is available by calling the museum at 812-378-3046 or by visiting kidscommons.org

As the city’s oldest charity still in operation, established in 1930, the Cheer Fund is a nonprofit organization run by city firefighters that provided toys and other gifts to 1,222 children last December.

People can donate new or gently used toys throughout the year by dropping them off at the Doug Otto United Way Center, 1531 13th St., or at any Columbus fire station.

The Cheer Fund also accepts monetary donations. Send or drop off checks to the Columbus Fire Department Station No. 1, 1101 Jackson St., Columbus, IN 47201
