Martha Hitchel, 83, of Columbus, died at 5:55 a.m. October 4, 2016, at Franciscan Hospice House in Indianapolis.

Martha was born March 26, 1933, in Waynesburg, Indiana, the daughter of Amos and Cleona Waldorf McClintic. She married John M. Hitchel March 21, 1954. He preceded her in death March 12, 1987.

She graduated from Jackson Township in Decatur County in 1951. Martha was a former member of Waynesburg Christian Church, from birth until 1990 when moved her membership to First Christian Church in Columbus where she belonged to 3 M’s Sunday school class and 55 Fellowship.

Martha was a member of the Literary Club in Jackson Township and Merri-Maker Home Ec Club and Senior Citizens Center, both in Columbus.

She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and her circle of friends.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2016, at First Christian Church with David Burnett and Daniel Acton officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Please enter through the Lafayette Street doors. Additional calling will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Westport Cemetery.

Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn Dolezal of Avon and Joyce (J.D.) Acton of Columbus; a son-in-law, Mike Cechovic of Oregon; grandchildren, Brendon (Kerri) Cechovic, Matthew Cechovic, Leah (Bill) Goins Speckin and Luke, David and Daniel Acton; and two great-grandchildren, John and Mark Speckin.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a daughter, Debbie Cechovic; grandsons, Kurt Goins and Mark Acton; brothers, Larry, Bill and Jerry McClintic; and son-in-law, Jeff Dolezal.
