Cummins Inc. announced it would put the Columbus Engine Plant, also known as Plant 1, back into use producing a new light-duty diesel engine for Daimler-Chrysler, creating about 600 new jobs no later than 2010.

A 16 percent drop in voter registration from four years earlier was attributed to most races in Columbus being uncontested.

Most toy centers in Columbus took a toy war weapon called “Sonic Blaster” off their shelves after an alert from state health officials warned the toy was loud enough to permanently impair the hearing of people within its range.
