Dale E. Handt, 80, of Columbus, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Handt retired in 1999 from Local 440 as a steam fitter and was an Army veteran.
He was a member of the American Legion, V.F.W., Columbus Moose Lodge and Columbus Eagles Lodge.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Matthew Kirts and Alan Handt officiating.
Family and friends may call from 1:30 p.m. to time of service Tuesday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
Private inurnment will be at Spraytown Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Mr. Handt was born June 30, 1936, in Floyd, Iowa, to Carl A. and Luva M. Campbell Handt.
He married Peggy A. Garland April 18, 1959. She preceded him in death January 5, 2009.
Survivors include his children, Jerry Dale (Erin) Handt of Columbus, Cathy (Ronald) Kirts of Freetown, Ricky Handt of Seymour and Gary Handt of Columbus; brothers, Norman Handt of Columbus and Alan (Debbie) Handt of Indianapolis; a sister, Mary Lou Shelly of Trafalgar; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, Dorothy Larson.
