SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — A man who kidnapped and killed a Southern California teenager in 1976 will spend seven years to life in prison.

Sixty-two-year-old Larry Allred was sentenced Monday for the murder of Cynthia May Hernandez.

The 18-year-old Glendora woman failed to return from watching “The Omen” at a theater.

Her family found her car in the theater parking lot. Her remains were later found buried in the San Bernardino mountains near Allred’s family cabin but weren’t identified through DNA testing until 2014.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune ( ) says Allred apologized to the victim’s family at his sentencing.

Allred, who has three previous rape convictions, pleaded guilty to murder last month. Prosecutors say Allred kidnapped Hernandez at knifepoint but panicked and strangled her when she fought back.
