George M. Moore, 79, of Columbus, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016, at his home.

Before retirement, he was an engineer at Cummins Engine Company.

He served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus where he had served as an elder, deacon and had taught Sunday school.

George loved to fish, bowl and was a great handyman. He was very outgoing, never met a stranger and loved visiting with people. He was an all-around good person and loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Norman Funeral Home in Hope. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be given to Memorial Baptist Church.

Born January 26, 1937, in Columbus, George was the son of Lewis and Fayetta Haymaker Quick. He married Phyllis Renner June 23, 1956, and she preceded him in death March 29, 2002. He then married Rejina Janes Pumphrey May 5, 2005, and she survives.

Other survivors include daughter, Cynthia (Chris) Baldwin of Columbus; step-children, Steve (Genora) Pumphrey of Rugby, Janie (Ted) Shanks of Manteo, North Carolina, Randy (Sherri) Pumphrey of Columbus and Lori (Jeff) Crouse of Ogilville; grandchildren, Sarah (Eric) Mullis of Columbus, David (Mara) Baldwin of Columbus; and nine step-grandchildren; great-grandson, Brentley Baldwin of Columbus; and 16 great-step-children; and sister, Judy Gater of Columbus.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents, Lewis and Fayetta; and a brother, Robert Moore.
