United Way seeking tax prep volunteers

United Way of Bartholomew County is seeking volunteers to serve as tax preparers and intake specialists for the VITA/AARP Tax Assistance programs. Last year’s effort served more than 1,000 Bartholomew County residents and saved local taxpayers more than $95,000 in fees.

Students, retirees, finance professionals and anyone with an interest in financial wellness are encouraged to volunteer by calling the United Way Volunteer Action Center at 812-314-2706 or e-mailing [email protected] to register for training.

The VITA/AARP tax programs offer free tax help to Bartholomew County residents, persons with disabilities, elderly and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide confidential and secure basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

VITA/AARP tax assistance sites will open in Bartholomew County in February.
