Brian’s picks – October 20

1) I grew up on Sixties music’s jangly guitars, from the Beatles to The Byrds to the Dave Clark Five. So it’s logical that I would recommend the annual Columbus Area Arts Council fundraiser, the unCommon Cause at 6 p.m. Saturday at The Commons, 300 Washington St. in Columbus. The auction event’s far-out focus is “The ’60s Experience: From Mods to Motown, Buzz Cuts to Bellbottoms.” Tickets are $125 apiece, available at artsincolumbus.org.

2) Even if Halloween outings seem as boring to you as hard-candy treats, you’ll love The Haunting at Shireman Homestead. A 45-minute tour that includes a headless horseman, a scary mine shaft and related elements all unfolds at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday evenings through October, rain or shine, at the Shireman property, 7060 W. County Road 200N. Tickets are $12, available onsite and also at Sam’s Club. A $5 nonscary young children’s time is slated from 5 to 6 p.m. Information: 812-372-2946 or shiremanhomestead.com.
