Vice President Dick Cheney flew into Columbus Municipal Airport aboard Air Force Two before heading to Camp Atterbury to thank troops for their sacrifice in the war on terror and to swear in 19 soldiers, including Jay Brown of Columbus, a staff sergeant and 13-year veteran of the National Guard who was re-enlisting.

1991

A spectacular fire burned components of the Columbus municipal wastewater treatment system south of First Street, creating flames and black smoke that were visible throughout Central Columbus. The fire caused no disruption of service at the plant but caused more than $22,000 in damage.

1966

Columbus developer Rex Breeden unveiled to the Bartholomew County Plan Commission his plan for a 142-acre industrial area on U.S. 31 near the Columbus drive-in theater.
