Police arrest man for drug-related charges after giving false ID

Columbus police arrested a local man after he gave them a false name.

Early Thursday morning, officer Michael Butler saw Stephan D. Henderson, 27, 1303 16th St., Columbus, in the 2400 block of North National Road, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

When Butler spoke with the man, Henderson gave a false name and date of birth, Harris said. After his identity was determined, police learned he had four warrants for failure to appear on trespassing, conversion and driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

While at the jail, officers found a bag of methamphetamine that Henderson concealed in his clothing, Harris said. In addition to the warrants, Henderson was arrested on charges of making a false identity statement and possession of methamphetamine, Harris said.

Henderson is being held in the Bartholomew County Jail in lieu of $35,000 bond, jail officials said.
