Chris Windom remains as one of the hottest open-wheel drivers in the nation.
Windom won the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature on Oct. 15 at Terre Haute Action Track. He was the final leader of an exciting event that saw two dozen “unofficial” lead changes among four drivers.
Windom led the field across the finish line in the Jim Hurtubise Classic. He also won the Midget portion of the Kokomo Klash the night before on Oct. 14. Trailing Windom across the finish line at Terre Haute was Chad Boespflug, Jerry Coons Jr., Chase Stockon of Elizabethtown and Justin Grant.
Richie Lex won the Modified main event at Terre Haute. Broc Burton of Columbus came from the 14th starting spot to finish second. Jesse Snyder was third, with Dave Baldwin and Marty Lindeman completing the top five.

Kokomo hosts Klash
Kokomo Speedway closed its racing season with its annual running of the Kokomo Klash. Several divisions of race cars participated in the 2-day show on Oct. 14 and 15.
Grant won the Sprint Car portion of the Klash on Oct. 14. He was followed to the finish line by Shane Cottle, Coons Jr., Windom and Jarett Andretti.
Following Windom in the Midget feature were Darland, Tanner Thorson, Gage Walker and Holly Shelton.
Craig Ronk was victorious in the 600 Micro-Sprint feature. Boston Mead finished second, followed by Wes Pinkerton, Cailin Hunt and Matt Johnson.
Jason Fritz took top honors in the Thunder Car division. Sheldon Oberle was second, with John Simmons, Chris Joseph and Justin Minardo completing the top five.
Jay Morris won the Late Model feature at Kokomo. Mike Spatola would trail Morris across the finish line. John Gardner was third, with Bill Sheets and Casey Noonan rounding out the top five.
Nick Allen was victorious in the Modified division. Dylan Woodling, Jamie Lomax, Dan Hamstra and Bobby Stremme followed.
In the Sportsman division, it was Steve Peeden picking up the win. Randy Petro of Columbus was second, with Steve Hollars, Chris McCoy and Lee Hobbs completing the top five competitors.
Michael Clark win the Street Stock main over Jarrid Krick, Josh Frye, Bob McLean and Curtis Radke.
The Hornet main event went to Guy Sutton. He was followed to the finish line by Josh Gamblin, Jacob Wilkinson, Dalton Smith and Jake Momper.
Thorson takes 3 in Illinois
Tanner Thorson swept all three USAC National Midget feature events Oct. 6 to 8 at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois. Thorson was behind the wheel of the Keith Kunz of Columbus-Curb-Agajanian Motorsports/TRD-JBL Audio/Bullet/Speedway Toyota.
Spencer Bayston continues to lead the championship points standings over Thorson, Chad Boat, Brady Bacon and Carson Macedo.
Sheppard wins world title
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series concluded its 2016 season with the $100,000-to-win Dirt Track World Championship Race at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. The event drew 85 Modifieds and 79 Late Models.
Brandon Sheppard picked up the biggest win of his career by taking the 100-lap Lucas Oil main event.
Sheppard took the lead on lap 77 from Josh Richards to pick up the win. Earl Pearson Jr. finished second, followed by Richards, Gregg Satterlee and Darrell Lanigan. Don O’Neal of Martinsville was sixth, with Devin Moran, Doug Drown, Tim McCreadie and Rod Conley completing the top 10.
Jared Hawkins won the Modified portion of the event, earning $4,000 for that triumph. Florence hosts final show tonight.
With all of the local dirt tracks closed for the year, one nearby track will hold its final event of the 2016 racing season. Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky, will host the Late Models and Modifieds tonight with a $5,000-to-win purse on the line for both divisions.

Salem hosts season finale
Salem Speedway closes out its racing campaign with the 28th annual Halloween 200 Sunday afternoon around the high-banked asphalt track.
A purse of $5,000-to-win has been posted for the Street Stocks. The event starts at 1:30 p.m. For more info, salemspeedway.com.
Hall announces inductees
The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame located at Florence Speedway named its newest inductees for the Class of 2017.
Among those honored will be two-time Brownstown Speedway Late Model track champion Kenny Simpson from Bedford. Simpson was a long-time regular at the track before he passed away in 1984 at the age of 48. He had just completed the most successful season of his career by winning the track titles at Brownstown and Scottsburg. He finished fifth in the World 100 that year and amassed 19 wins.
Joining Simpson in the Hall of Fame in August will be current drivers Rick Eckert and Dale McDowell. Others enshrined will be Roger Dolan, Joe Merryfield, Dave and John Draime, Joel Hedrick and Jim Wilson.
Columbus brothers Gene and Russ Petro already are members of the exclusive list of inductees.
