East Wrestling Club to resume this week

Columbus East Wrestling Club practices will begin this week for grades kindergarten through 6. A parent informational meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The beginner group practices Mondays and Wednesdays, and the advanced group practices Tuesdays and Thursdays in the East High School wrestling room. The first week is free, and signups will begin in the second week.

Academy sponsoring new basketball league

The Columbus Club Elite Basketball Academy is sponsoring a new basketball league for boys in Grades 3 through 8.

Clinic and team selection will continue Nov. 5. Games will begin Nov. 12 run for six Saturdays at Columbus East High School.

Grades 3 and 4 will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Grades 5 and 6 will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. and Grades 7 and 8 will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

The league will involve working on fundamentals, practicing drills and playing games. Cost is $60, with a $5 discount for additional siblings in a family and includes a reversible jersey, a basketball and free admission to all East varsity basketball games.

Registration can be done from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the East athletics office. Registration forms also are available at columbusclubelite.org.

North senior hosting basketball clinic

Columbus North senior basketball player Imani Guy will host the “No Dog Left Behind” one-day basketball clinic Saturday at Memorial Gym for her senior project.

The clinic is open to boys and girls in Grades 5 to 8. Fifth- and sixth-graders will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m., and seventh- and eighth-graders will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $15, with net proceeds to be donated to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Registration forms can be picked up at the North athletics office or by emailing [email protected] to request one. Registration forms should be submitted by Oct. 20 to be guaranteed a T-shirt.

Chili-Dip Open to benefit Columbus East golf teams

The Chili-Dip Open golf scramble will be at 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at Otter Creek.

Cost is $50 per person and includes greens fees, cart, chili and other goodies. Proceeds will benefit the Columbus East boys and girls teams to help with uniforms, golf bags and other expenses.

North Volleyball Club plans meetings, tryouts

The Columbus North Volleyball Club will hold Parent/Player informational meetings at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 in the school’s LGI room and at 4 p.m. Nov. 13 in the cafeteria. Parents and players need to attend only one of those meetings.

Tryouts will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 for Grades 3 through 6 and from 3 to 5 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 for Grades 7 and 8. Teams will be announced, and coaches will be introduced on Nov. 14 in the cafeteria.

Club director Caitlin Greiner is hoping to take interested teams to the AAU Nationals June 19 to 22 in Orlando, Florida.

Hoosier Pro Wrestling returning to fairgrounds

Hoosier Pro Wrestling’s 18-Year Anniversary Show and 12th Annual Columbus Firemens Cheer Fundraiser and Toy Drive will be at 7:45 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Tickets are $15, and kids 4 and younger are free. Fans are asked to bring a new or gently used toy to help kids in need at Christmas.
