Prep sports roundup: Trinity takes sectional title

CAMPBELLSBURG — Trinity Lutheran had little trouble in rolling to a sectional volleyball title Saturday night with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-8 win against Orleans at West Washington.

Hailley Peters led the Cougars with 10 kills and three aces. Whitney Rogers also served three aces, and Sydney Stahl added seven kills.

Trinity advanced to the final with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-17 win against Borden earlier in the day. Chloe Criswell pounded seven kills, and Ashley Goecker served five aces.

The Cougars (16-19) advance to Tuesday’s regional, where they will visit Class A No. 1 Christian Academy of Indiana.

Crusaders fall in semis

LAFAYETTE — Columbus Christian fell two wins short of a state championship, falling to Heritage Christian (Dyer) 25-18, 25-16, 25-13 in the ICSAA state semifinals at Faith Christian School.

Mayah Schumdelmier led the Crusaders (18-4) with a block and two aces. Madison Henderson pounded six kills, Sabrina Herron recorded nine assists and Hannah Lorimor notched eight digs.

Lorimor also tallied three kills, and Sabrina Herron and Savannah Herron each had three kills and an ace. Savannah Spurgeon recorded two assists, and Sabrina Herron had seven digs.

Owls sweep Panthers

JEFFERSONVILLE — Seymour was too much for Jennings County in a 25-22, 25-11, 25-17 Owls win in the semifinals of the Class 4A Jeffersonville Sectional.

Emma McPeek pounded five kills and one solo block, and Katie Schneider had two assist blocks and two aces to lead the Panthers (10-22). Carissa Kinney recorded 13 assists, and Hanah Bertram notched 15 digs.

Kinney and Schneider each tallied four kills, and Abi Vogel had two assist blocks. Kinney added 12 digs, and Krystal Wilson and Sydney Brown each had six digs.

Lancers fall to Cougars

INDIANAPOLIS — Edinburgh stayed close for the first two sets in a 25-21, 25-22, 25-15 loss to Greenwood Christian Academy in the semifinals of the Class A Indianapolis Lutheran Sectional.

The Lancers finished 16-16.

LAFAYETTE — Columbus Christian scored first, but Heritage Christian (Dyer) rallied for a 2-1 win in the semifinals of the ICSAA state semifinals

Kyle Foster scored on a penalty kick for the Crusaders (4-6).

Heritage outshot Christian 31-5. Evan Reed recorded 16 saves.
