Video from the scene: Dump truck, train collide at County Road 550N

A train and a dump truck collided at County Road 550N and U.S. 31 at about 7:43 a.m. this morning. No injuries were reported.

An empty dump truck was traveling west on County Road 550N and drove across the railroad tracks, stopping to turn north on U.S. 31, said German Township Volunteer Fire Department Deputy Chief Matt Lynch.

A northbound train with 72 cars hit the back end of the truck, turning it about 90 degrees, Lynch said. The train was hauling new cars. The train remained on the tracks and stopped.

An inspection is needed before all the train cars can be removed, Lynch said. However train workers are uncoupling the train cars near the intersection so traffic can resume crossing at the intersection.
