Eleanor A. Dorsett, 88, of North Vernon, passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon, with a Rosary service beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Born September 3, 1928, in North Vernon, Mrs. Dorsett was the daughter of John and Blanche (McClellan) McCauley. She married Robert Dorsett on November 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 2008.

Eleanor retired from Jennings County Schools where she had worked as a teacher’s assistant. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was an active member of the Republican party, enjoyed traveling and lapidary hobbies.

Survivors include three daughters, Nora (Clyde) Campbell and Mary Kilgore, both of North Vernon, and Joanna (John) Parks of Columbus; two sons, Robert Dorsett III and William (Andrea) Dorsett of North Vernon; two brothers, Patrick McCauley of Indianapolis and Tom (Elizabeth) McCauley of North Vernon; grandchildren, Grant Campbell, Cassandra Shipley, Zachary, Andrew, Daniel, Boone, and Daisy Dorsett, Hannah Skinnari and Bailey Kilgore; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, John and Donald McCauley.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Vincent DePaul Society or St. Mary’s School.
