Franklin
Ernest H. Smith, 89, of Franklin, a former Columbus resident, died Sunday, October 23, 2016, at his home.
He was born December 5, 1926, in Jefferson County, Indiana, the son of Ernest H. and Ethel M. Hancock Smith. He married Mary Lou Brown in Columbus August 31, 1958. She preceded him in death February 25, 2000.
Ernie was a retired mail carrier for the Columbus Post Office. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of First Christian Church of Columbus, St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, York Rite, American Legion Post No. 233, Columbus Chapter No. 339 Order of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Patron in 1963, Order of Amaranth and Columbus Elks Lodge No. 521.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday at Garland Brook Cemetery with Chaplin Charles Stanley officiating. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements were made by Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street.
