Letter: Nolting best qualified to serve as coroner

From: Charlie Deweese

A recent letter implied that a police officer serving as coroner constitutes dual office holding in Indiana. This is misinformation aimed to take advantage of readers who may not know the law. The Indiana attorney general’s guide on dual office holding is available on the internet for anyone to review.

The fact is that several Indiana counties have elected a local law enforcement officer as their coroner. It just makes good sense, since they are specially trained in the law, evidence collection and court procedures.

By law, both local coroner candidates are equally eligible to run for and hold the office. But they are not equally qualified. Clayton Nolting has outstanding qualifications uniquely suited to the job of coroner. Please join me in electing him coroner.
