Crusaders volleyball team wins Division III national title

DAYTON, Tennessee — The Columbus Christian volleyball team made the most of its trip to the National Association of Christian Athletes Tournament, capturing the Division III national championship on Friday.

The Crusaders (22-4) beat Cumberland Valley 25-15, 25-18 and Hearts 27-25, 25-13 Friday afternoon to reach the title game. Columbus Christian then downed Faith Christian from Roanoke, Virginia, 25-13, 25-21 for the championship.

Savannah Herron pounded 22 kills, Sabrina Herron recorded 32 assists, Mayah Schundelmeier had six solo and two assist blocks, Hannah Lorimor notched 32 digs and Savannah Spurgeon served seven aces in the three matches to lead the Crusaders. Sabrina Herron also tallied 15 kills and six aces, and Hannah Stair added 30 digs.

Columbus Christian won 3 of 6 sets on Wednesday and 6 of 6 sets on Thursday to be placed in the Division III tournament.
