Shoe program aids students

Selected students at Columbus North and Columbus East high schools received new athletic shoes through a program that helps underprivileged youths at the high school.

The Kicks N the Halls program was started two years ago by The Fitted Foot Shoe Store and helps students receive new athletic shoes heading into the fall/winter season, to ensure proper shoe gear to protect feet and maintain health.

School nurses serve as the liaisons between The Fitted Foot and the students and identify who is in need of new athletic shoes.

This year, with the help of a Color Fun Run on April 1 at the new The Fitted Foot location in Columbus and several sponsors, 40 pairs of new Brooks and Saucony shoes were distributed to students at Columbus East, Columbus North, Jennings County and Seymour High Schools.

Last year, the first year of raising money for the program, The Fitted Foot handed out 19 pairs of brand new shoes, divided between students at Seymour and Jennings County high schools.
