Early-morning fire destroys Columbus home’s garage

Columbus firefighters were called to a garage fire in the 1000 block of Pennsylvania Street early this morning which spread to a fence, lawn and large tree before the fire was put out.

The fire was reported at about 6 a.m. about a garage fully engulfed, said Capt. Mike Wilson, Columbus Fire Department spokesman.

When firefighters arrived at 1024 Pennsylvania St., the extreme heat had begun to melt the vinyl siding on the residence and damaging a wooden play set and were spreading to a fence that divided the property from 1020 Pennsylvania St.

Both properties are rentals, managed by TLC Properties, Wilson said.

Firefighters said the fire cause has been ruled undetermined. Damages to the garage, wooden play set and siding are estimated at $15,000.
