Willie Denton, 83, of Shelby County, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at his residence. He was born April 9, 1933, in Columbia, Kentucky, the son of Elijah and Effie (Powell) Denton. He married Rosa (Cowan) Denton on May 3, 1952.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Allan (Shirley) Denton of Franklin, Indiana, Fred Denton of New Whiteland, Indiana, Wendell (Teresa) Denton of Franklin, Indiana, and Mike (Shelley) Denton of Gonzales, Texas; two daughters, Lavonne (Roger) Rowe of Edinburgh, Indiana, and Cindy (Rick) Higdon of Shelbyville, Indiana; a brother, Alvin (Joyce) Denton of Columbia, Kentucky; a sister, Hettie (Lewis) Burton of Edinburgh, Indiana; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arnold Denton; and sisters, Annie Harmon, Dorinda Hadley and Birtie Cox.

Mr. Denton was a member of Who-So-Ever-Will Community Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He retired from George Barhe Construction Company of Indianapolis and was a member of Labor Union No. 741 of Bloomington.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, traveling and NASCAR.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2016, by the Reverend Lewis Burton at Who-So-Ever-Will Community Church in Edinburgh, Indiana. Calling will be from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday, November 13, at the church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh.
