Firefighters called to field, forest fire on West Baker Hollow Road

Firefighters are leaving the scene of a large field and brush fire reported early this afternoon west of Columbus.

Firefighters from Bartholomew and Brown counties reported the fire under control as of 4 p.m. Wednesday.

The fire departments were staging and working from an area where West Baker Hollow Road dead-ends in the 14,000 block, firefighters said.

The area is between State Road 46 and Georgetown Road on Columbus’ west side. A helicopter from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department circled the area to alert firefighters as to the extent of the fire.
