Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

Columbus police arrested a local woman on drug-related charges after a traffic stop for driving a vehicle with an expired license plate.

Sasha S. Penrose, 32, 2230 Sims Court, was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia after the traffic stop at 3:15 p.m. Friday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officer Maren Crabtree stopped Penroseā€™s vehicle near Beam Road and U.S. 31 and issued her a citation for the expired plate, Harris said. Prior to towing the vehicle, officers searched the vehicle and located two digital scales containing methamphetamine residue.

Penrose was released from the Bartholomew County Jail after posting $10,000 bond, jail officials said.
