Alex King, Columbus North senior basketball player

King scored 31 points in his season debut Saturday to lead the Bull Dogs to a 64-49 win at Hauser.

His performance last week: “I thought I played pretty well, but I owe it all to my teammates for finding me and getting me the ball.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I listen to my favorite music (rap and hip-hop) and get in the zone.”

Favorite drink: “Blue Powerade”

Favorite food: “Salmon and pasta”

Favorite book: “The Maze Runner”

Favorite class: “Math”

Role model: “My dad (Ron King)”

Best advice: “Hard work beats talent because no matter how talented you are, it always come down to how hard you want to work. It could be basketball or academics or anything.”

Athletics goal: “To play at the Division I level”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Bora Bora because I’ve never been there, and I love to visit islands. I’ve already visited the Caribbean, and I’d love to go to Bora Bora.”

Maliah Howard-Bass, Columbus North senior basketball player

Howard-Bass led the Bull Dogs with 29 points in Saturday’s 58-43 loss at Lakota West (Ohio), eclipsing the 1,000-point mark for her career.

Her performance last week: “We improved as a team and we just need to learn for future games and the tournament.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Before every game, I usually do a pre-workout, and me, Ashlyn (Huffman) and Imani (Guy) have our handshakes. Then, the team shoots during halftime of the JV game.”

Favorite drink: “White Cherry Powerade”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “Catcher in the Rye”

Favorite class: “Weights”

Role model: “My mom (Brianna Howard-Bass)”

Best advice: “You have more success when you work as a team and not individually.”

Athletics goal: “To play Division I basketball, and I have accomplished that, so my next goal would be 1,000 points at Ball State.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I would travel to Spain because ever since I was a little kid, I thought it would be cool.”
