After a slight delay, a new emergency helicopter service for Columbus and surrounding communities, Lifeline Critical Care Transport, officially kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Columbus Regional Hospital’s helipad.

Frigid temperatures in the mid-to-upper teens and gusty winds from 10 to 20 mph gripped Columbus and were expected to continue most of the month.

An unofficial frigid 6 degrees above zero was reported at 8 a.m., making it the coldest early December weather in years.
