Woman injured in parade accident

A woman who was participating in Saturday night’s Festival of Lights parade was injured when she tripped and fell under one of the parade units being pulled by a pickup truck.

The incident happened near the middle of the parade as the IUPUC entry with the trailer passed by Third and Washington streets. Three parade-watchers and a Republic photographer ran to the accident and told the truck driver to stop after seeing the woman fall and become trapped under the trailer.

Columbus Fire Department paramedics, who were riding on a parade entry about three floats behind the trailer, jumped off and ran to help the woman. A parade-goer with medical training also went into the street to offer assistance.

The woman was not believed to be seriously hurt, Columbus Police said Saturday night. She was taken by ambulance to Columbus Regional Hospital.
