After a site at Mill Race Park was chosen as the location of a new senior center, Columbus officials began exploring where to find another $1.6 million to $2 million to build the adult community center.

Patricia Downs, widow of Specialist Fourth Class Jerry Wayne Downs, the first Bartholomew County native to be killed in Vietnam, accepted the Purple Heart presented posthumously to her husband.
