Bartholomew County Commissioners unanimously approved a contract that would pay Sheriff Mark Gorbett $95,000 for his first year in office and an additional $3,000 for each of the next three years.

Columbus-Bartholomew Solid Waste Management Authority voted to continue paying $75 a month for recycling bins at two Marsh stores and the Kroger Sav-On store, diverting about 10 tons of material a month from the landfill.

Pint-sized Santas in the fifth-grade class of Genevieve Piccione at Parkside Elementary School collected clothing and food and assembled kits of toiletries for Navajo Indian children in Gallup, New Mexico, a projected spearheaded by a class member, Lu Ann Habermeyer.
