Robert Nelson

Columbus

Reverend Robert “Bobbie Gene” Nelson, October 10, 1930 – December 18, 2016.

At the age of 86, Bob Nelson left us to go and be with his Lord at around 6:15 p.m. EST in the ICU at Columbus Regional Hospital. Bob was surrounded by family holding his hands while reading scripture and singing his favorite hymns as he took his last breaths and entered into the kingdom of Heaven. He has gone to join his wife, Joyce, to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary together, the next day, December 19.

Born in Marshall, Arkansas, he eventually moved to the Yuba-Sutter, California, area where he met and married the love of his life, Joyce Barnes, and had three beautiful daughters. They moved to Indiana where he was a reverend in the Assembly of God Church for 53 years.

Surviving Bob are his daughters, Colleen (Alvin) McCullough of Marshall, Michigan, Debra Nelson of Columbus and Vicki (Thomas) Lovett of Hamlet, Indiana; siblings, Jim (Sharon) Nelson of Oklahoma, Billie Stewart of Sutter, California, Judy (Frank) Kastanuk of Merritt Island, Florida, and Joyce Phillips of Sutter, California; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Eileen Barnes Nelson; his parents, Elzie Ray and Ollie May Nelson; siblings, Maxine Oliver, JR Nelson, Allen E. Nelson, Avis Nelson and Scott Nelson; and a great-granddaughter, Naomi Hensley.

In keeping with Bob’s wishes, cremation is planned. Services will be held at a later date in California.

Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street is in charge of arrangements.
