2 hurt in head-on wreck in Jennings County

NORTH VERNON, Ind. — A Scipio woman and Seymour man were injured in a head-on collision in Jennings County.

At about 11:51 p.m. Saturday, North Vernon Police Department Officers Anthony Bagby and Wes Thayer investigated a head-on accident in the area of U.S. 50 West and Showers Drive.

William Lane, 27, Seymour, was driving westbound when he crossed the center lane and collided with Brittany Engelking, 19, Scipio, according to a North Vernon Police Department news release.

Lane was entrapped in the vehicle for about an hour. He was later transported to the St. Vincent Jennings Hospital emergency room and later transported to Indianapolis for further treatments, the North Vernon Police Department said.

Engelking also transported to the St. Vincent Jennings emergency room with non-life threatening injuries, the police department said.

A witness who was following Lane stated he observed him travel left of center a couple times and also witnessed him cross the center line at the time of the accident, the police department said.

Officers are investigating the cause of crash.
