A team of Columbus North High School seniors placed first among 17 schools competing for honors at the Franklin College Math Contest. It was the third time in 17 years of competition that a Columbus North team earned top honors.

Seven traffic fatalities, a death from a fall from a hayloft and one from a fire, marred the Christmas holiday weekend in the Columbus area as Indiana counted at least 16 dead on its highways and the national road toll soared past 500.
