One dead, one injured in State Road 7 accident

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department said one person died and one person was injured in an early-morning accident at State Road 7 and County Road 250E.

At about 5:09 a.m. today, Deputies Nate Nichols and Leah Burton responded to a possible accident with injury at State Street near 250 E. The accident involved a head-on collision between a semi and truck, the sheriff’s department said.

Upon arrival, Nichols observed a male sitting in the driver’s seat of a white Ford Ranger. The male, later identified as Michael Parris, 33, Elizabethtown, was unresponsive and did not have a pulse. Parris was entrapped in the vehicle and unable to be removed. Emergency medical services arrived on scene and pronounced Parris dead, said Caitlyn Gross, spokesperson for the sheriff’s department.

The passenger of the Ford Ranger, Dystiny Leonard, 26, Columbus, was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital with unknown injuries, Gross said.

State Road 7 and 250E is now open for traffic, Gross said.
