Letter: Funeral home personal blessing for family

From: Paula Jarrett

Columbus

The personnel of Jewell-Rittman were wonderful and kind in assisting with the funeral arrangements of my husband, Jay Jarrett. L.D. McCoy was so patient, caring and thoughtful.

My husband served with German Township Volunteer Fire Department for more than 15 years, including at one point as assistant chief. Those from German Township who attended the funeral deserve thanks for bringing two fire trucks in his honor. Columbus Township’s tribute was wonderful, with members sporting dress uniforms, white gloves and shining axes during the ceremony. They performed a “changing of fire fighters,” similar to London’s changing of the guards tribute. Our son deserves thanks for arranging the fire department service, which was most professional.

Our daughter Kayla worked so hard creating the video, and the music special to her father. Pastor Howard Boles delivered a beautiful and touching sermon. I am thankful for Pastor Lisa Cottingham listening to me over the summer, helping me accept Jay’s declining health.

Those who attended the funeral and contributed to German Township and the American Heart Association deserve thanks because those two causes were close to my husband’s heart.

I know my husband is smiling at our children for their hard work that made their father proud. Jay touched all that knew him. He was a good and kind man, who will be sorely missed.
